Carolina Horse Park Painted Ponies Artwalk
Carolina Horse Park Painted Ponies
I had always wanted to paint one of the life size sculptures I would see in Wellington at the Winter Equestrian Festival when I was a kid. In 2019 I replied to a Facebook post looking for Artist and within a few weeks a dream started to take shape an become reality. Since my First Pony titled Between the Ears I have painted seven total for the to raise money for the Horse Park. It's an honor to be a part of the walk each year and be among so many other talented artist.
You can see this years pony February 3rd - March 31st out front of Cabin Branch Tack shop in Downtown Southern Pines.

Between the ears is a series of painted done from photos I've taken over the years. The Palomino is based on Lacey my childhood heart horse. Each scene is a part of my life. The painting on the hind right was featured on the 2020 Moore County phone book.
2021 Painted Ponies
Left- Rooted in Horses Right Ponies in the Pines
Taking on the Challenge of painting 2 ponies in the small space of my dining room I wanted to do something simple. The wood grain and silhouettes were far from simple. Each pony has about 10 coats layering of gloss to get the grained effect. It was worth the work. They came out so beautiful. Many people thought they were real wood. The inspiration was how much horses are a part of Southern Pines.
